Should you get the Amazon only ProCase iPad Pro Keyboard?
I’m a frugal person. I like finding deals or products from companies that provide good value for your money. BUT I’ve been reviewing gadgets for years now and there is one common theme when it comes to gadgets..
You get what you pay for.
Now every once in a while, you’ll find a hidden gem BUT the $60 dollar ProCase is not one of those gems.
If you still feel strongly about getting this product...see how much it will cost on Amazon:
Amazon US: https://mreh.ca/2ZlrXZe
Amazon CA: https://mreh.ca/32afqJB
Amazon UK: https://mreh.ca/2OeuNsj
Amazon DE: https://mreh.ca/2OcKmku
At this very moment, I’m trying to write the review for the ProCase, on the ProCase and I can’t do it. Every time I try typing with this product, I think something is wrong with my thumbs.
So for the rest of this review, I’m going to talk about the:
0:00 Intro
1:08 Mind-numbing Overall Design
3:57 Crotch punching Keyboard Functionality
4:47 Semi-useful Keyboard Shortcuts
4:58 The terrible Typing Experience
6:20 Versatility
8:10 Bloopers
To use the ProCase, you snap your iPad into this thin PC shell that has giant empty spaces at the bottom of the case. It’s definitely cheaper to not cover the sections that aren’t in use….that’s a good look. There’s two places for your Apple Pencil to live...at the bottom of the case and at the top.
Now the complaint I had about the cheap backs fo the Moshi Versacover also applies to this product. The corners of this case come off incredibly easily.
There are no issues accessing the USB-C Port or any of the buttons since nothing is there.
The Procase secures your iPad using a large magnetic flap that covers the entire camera area. Setting the iPad up for use with the keyboard is annoying as the hinge flaps around with the keyboard attached to it. The ProCase provides you with three viewing angles.
Will this be an issue? Probably not since you’re going to inadvertently wake the iPad up when you’re haphazardly setting up your iPad. But that doesn’t solve the going to sleep issue.
But here’s a funny tidbit. The marketing fluff says the sleep and wake function work when you don’t use the keyboard. So...
When everything is buttoned up, the ProCase feels loose because there is a large gap where the keyboard ends. Real good stuff.
If you’re planning on using your Apple pencil, you’ll have to remove the keyboard from the case. And probably the case itself because it’s just going to get in the way. Honestly.
The ProCase is one of the heavier setups that we’ve used, clocking in at 777g but is mildly thinner at 21.8mm.
The keyboard in either state won’t slide around due to the PU leather exterior. The interior of the case supposedly has a microfiber layer but my product didn’t. Unless ProCase came up with a new type of microfiber that feels exactly like rubber.
From a wear and tear perspective, the case will be fine. Your iPad’s screen may not be as the my Paperlike screen protector suffered a decent scratch in the ProCase during our review period.
The ProCase uses a BT 3.0 keyboard. Yes, I said BT 3.0, something I haven’t said in probably 5 years. It’s the only keyboard out of my collection that charges via Micro-usb and has a battery life of 70 hours. The last keyboard case I reviewed was the Logitech Slim Folio and that had a 180 hour battery. The keys aren’t backlit either.
I’m also particularly fond of keyboards that have a lot of flex to them.
When it comes to shortcuts, there are the usual suspects AND a set of text functions like, select all, copy, paste and cut which may be handy. I’d be way more excited about this shortcuts if it was on a keyboard that worked well.
Though I will add that ProCase says that their keyboard has well-spaced keys.
When it comes to versatility, I will admit that having the flexibility to setup the iPad from whatever distance, I want from the keyboard is nice, I can hid the keyboard away if I just want to see the iPad BUT none of that matters if the typing experience is terrible. What’s the point of a keyboard case if the keyboard is terrible?
