Because Boost Mobile is now owned by Dish, not Sprint, the plans have changed from truly unlimited to kind of unlimited, and now there are 5 new plans under $50 to choose from if you don't want unlimited! you can look at the plans here: https://www.whistleout.com/CellPhones/Carriers/Boost-Mobile

Boost mobile used to be owned by sprint, but because of the merger with T-Mobile, Sprint was required to sell Boost to Dish. This was required as part of the merger to make sure there would still be competition in the market with 4 major carriers. The plan is to make dish the fourth major carrier and they will build out their own network, but for now they are starting small with MVNOs. First was Boost, then was Ting Mobile.
- New plans
Boost has two types of new plans to choose from. They have two in the “Unlimited” category. I do quotations because it’s not truly unlimited, and i’ll explain why soon. And then they have 5 plans with limited data all under $50 and they are really solid options.
- Unlimited
First we’re going to go over the unlimited plans. I briefly went over these plans in my video last monday, but we’re going over them again. As one commenter put, “it’s a real bummer they don’t offer truly unlimited anymore” and it sure is…But there is a reason for that.
Now Boost has to pay T-Mobile for the amount of data they use and bandwidth they’re taking up on the network. Because of that, they need to limit consumers on data usage or else they’d be paying a hefty fee and wouldn’t make as much money.
So although you don’t get truly unlimited, it might be better for you! Let me explain. With Boosts OLD unlimited plans your data was deprioritized during times of congestion MEANING you didn’t have a set amount of high-speed data. NOW both plans offer 35GB of high-speed data, which is awesome. Now you know for sure you’ll have good speeds, at least until your data runs out, then you’ll be able to use unlimited 2G data… that’s the bummer here. You technically have unlimited because you won’t be charged overages...but it’s really slow data past 35GB. Luckily you’d really have to be using A LOT OF DATA to burn through 35GB.
The two Unlimited plans are basically identical minus a few differences. The $50 plan gives you 12GB of hotspot use and you can only stream in SD. the $60 plan gives you a 30GB hotspot and you can stream in HD.
If i were to choose between these two, i’d save $10 and go with the $50 plan. I don’t need that big of a hotspot allowance, and I don’t care to stream in HD. If you disagree with me and need both of those things, then you should go with the $60 plan.
Quick note: If you’re a legacy Boost Mobile customer and you want to switch to a plan on the expanded network, you can ONLY switch to one of these unlimited plans, you don’t qualify for the 5 under $50 plans.
- 5 under $50
Now if you don’t need unlimited but rather a cheap plan with some data, then these next 5 plans are for you! They’re all under $50/month and offer some great features.
The 5 plans are $45/$35/$25/$15 or $10 per month. They ALL offer unlimited talk and text and allow you to use your allotted data for hotspot use. All the plan pricing includes taxes and fee’s so there are no hidden fees to worry about. All plans are prepaid and contract free so you’re free to leave whenever you want. Now let’s talk about the differences
- Which would I choose?
If i’m looking for an unlimited data plan, which i usually am, then i’m going for the $50/month unlimited plan. If you need a bigger hotspot allotment and like to stream in HD then you should go with the $60/month plan.
When it comes to the new 5 under $50 plans, I’m a BIG fan of the Shrink it $45 to $35 plan. Over 6 months you’ll save $10 on the price of the plan and It’s hard to beat 15GB with unlimited 2G access for $35 PLUS hotspot access is a great deal. If you don’t need that much data, then going for the $25/$15 or $10 plans are all good options as well… i would probably avoid the $35 10GB plan because it’s comes out as the same cost as the $45 plan and you’re hard capped at 10GB… once you use it, it’s gone no 2G access like the $45 plan.
Are you a fan of the new Boost plans?? Which would you choose?? I’m sherri riggs, thanks for watching WO TV.
