Replacing the stock 128GB SSD with a 500GB Crucial P2 - using no adapters.
Steps:
1) Upgrade OS to High Sierra or above for NVMe compatibility
2) Use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone drive to any external hard drive
3) Install Sintech adapter + Crucial P2 500GB SSD
4) Boot into external hard drive
5) Use Disk Utility to format the internal Crucial P2 500GB SSD
6) Use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the external hard drive to the internal Crucial P2 500GB SSD
Done! Now you have upgraded to a 500GB MacBook Air whilst also retaining all your data.
