Real simple video that shows the iPad Pro 2020 beating the new M1 iPad Pro 2021 in gameplay and gaming graphics when playing PUBG Mobile. In the test the graphics quality, frame rate, frames per second and resolution are set to their highest maximum for PUBG Mobile on both the M1 iPad Pro 2021 and the iPad Pro 2020. PUBG Mobile is also fully up to date on both iPads as of the day of the recording.

Another way to look at this is that it is an Apple Silicon M1 vs Apple A12Z Bionic graphics test for gaming and gameplay.

In a side by comparison the M1 iPad Pro 2021 clearly drops more frames during gameplay compared to the iPad Pro 2020.

The resolution of the graphics and gameplay on the M1 iPad Pro 2021 are also lower than the gaming graphics on the iPad Pro 2020.

Yes, the Apple Silicon M1 processor in the M1 iPad Pro 2021 is a lot more powerful than the Apple A12Z Bionic. Although it would seem that there needs to be further optimisation within the software for the graphics on the Apple Silicon M1 processor. Whether that's further optimisation of the iPadOS operating system or the gaming Apps themselves, I couldn't say but there is obviously something not right yet as last year's iPad Pro beats it for gaming graphics, for now at least.

I've no doubt that this will be sorted in the future but for now. If you are considering buying the M1 iPad Pro 2021 for gaming, especially using the M1 iPad Pro 2021 as a gaming console linked to a TV or monitor via HDMI. I would recommend holding off until it has bee updated. And I definitely wouldn't recommend trading in an iPad Pro 2020 to move to the M1 iPad Pro 2020 just yet. Definitely wait until the software has caught up with the software.
