In this video I wrap up the iBook G3 "Clamshell" project. After last week's teardown I realized that I needed to replace the 0.33F supercapacitor on the logic board responsible for PMU settings. I ordered it online, along with an mSATA SSD and an IDE enclosure.
Part 1 if you haven't seen it: https://youtu.be/AD8dxUFiRjA
The leakage from the faulty supercapacitor had wreaked a little more havoc on the logic board than I initially thought. Visually the pads looked fine and appeared to clean up well, but it became evident that there was some heavy oxidation or possible damage to the through-hole of one of the component legs.
After struggling with to anchor in one of the capacitor legs, I decided to further support it with a bridge wire. Despite the fact that it was making a connection, I could tell the solder joint wasn't going to be enough to support it long term.
Once the repair was finalized and the SSD installed, I installed MacOS 9 using the original restore disc and look forward to enjoying this machine for many years to come.
