A victim of an armed robbery helped officers track down two suspects who robbed him at gunpoint.

The victim, a 26-year-old Watsonville man, was jogging in the slough near the Ford/Kearney extension on Saturday afternoon when two teenaged suspects pointed a gun at him and ordered him to hand over his iPhone and Apple AirPods. After the suspects fled on foot, the victim ran home and called the police. About an hour after the initial report was taken, the victim was able to update officers with the current location of his stolen iPhone.

Our patrol officers quickly found the suspects riding inside of a car near Ramsay Park. Given that a gun was used during the robbery, they conducted a high-risk car stop. The suspects, who were identified by the victim, were taken into custody and booked into juvenile hall. The victim’s belongings were recovered but the firearm was not in the car. One other teen who was in the car was briefly detained but released after it was determined he was not involved in the robbery.

As for the victim, he did everything right from the start-- he complied with the armed robbers’ demands, called the police, and continued working with us until the thieves were caught. But most importantly, he walked away uninjured!
