Some time ago, Glarry contacted me and asked me to review a ukulele. I was given a choice out of their entire catalog, and I picked the cheapest ukulele...which also included a heart-shaped sound hole (Glarry UC205--as of the date of publishing $23). I have an interest in reviewing "starter ukuleles," and I felt this one would be worth reviewing.
To be honest, it was a mess, and I wouldn't review it. I contacted the company and made a video for their own use, and then put the ukulele on the shelf.
Aside from cosmetic issues, the UC205 had a critical flaw...the first fret was too long, making everything out of tune once you started playing.
I asked Glarry if they wanted it back, and they did not. So I have used that ukulele for some testing (e.g. fretboard oil) and planned to make a bird house out of it. But i recently had the idea that I might be able to save the ukulele.
For the record...unless you are a luthier trying to save a valuable vintage Martin...or just a person up to a challenge...you shouldn't have to try to save a ukulele, particularly a new ukulele. But here is what I did, and I hope some part of this nearly 20 minute long video has something of interest for you.
