The Brydge Pro+, as of right now, is really the only keyboard/trackpad alternative to the extremely expensive Magic Keyboard for the iPad.

The Brydge Pro+ is $230 dollars, the Magic Keyboard is $350.

Is the Brydge Pro+ worth considering? The short answer is generally no. The trackpad is terrible on the Brydge Pro+.

The longer answer would be MAYBE IF you’re primarily a keyboard and mouse user. Going to the Brydge Pro+ wouldn’t be terrible.

BUT if you’ve been a Apple laptop or an APple trackpad user and have gotten use to all the gestures, this Brydge Pro+ is going to frustrate you to no end.

Installing your iPad into the Brydge Pro + requires you to strong arm your device into the hinges. These hinges are bigger than the ones found on the regular Pro and are tougher as they are able to stop the iPad from slowly falling over.

Lining up that edges of the keyboard with the iPad also requires a bit of elbow grease as you have to move the iPad while in the hinge.

I do have a screen protector on this iPad and as you can see, it fits into the hinges of the product. BUT it is showing a bit of wear and tear after three weeks of usage. So ex-nay on using a glass screen protector with the Brydge Pro+.

When it comes to bulk, the keyboard weighs about 690g’s which is lighter than the regular Pro which is surprising BUT you’re still being close to doubling the weight of the 12.9 inch iPad Pro.

When it comes to Keyboard functionality, the Brydge Pro+ connects via BT 5.0 so when you decide that this is terrible product, you can still pair it with something else that needs a keyboard to be used from a distance?

Like all BT keyboards, the keyboard needs to be woken up after it goes to sleep. You need to press a key to wake it up, tapping the trackpad does nothing.

The Brydge Pro+ on the 12.9 comes with a full-sized keyboard that has smaller than average keys at 15.5mm wide. The magic keyboard keys are almost a full mm bigger. The distance between the keys is the same.

Ok. Let’s talk about the trackpad.

It’s so bad. Just so bad. So so so bad. Using trackpad between the Brydge Pro+ and Magic Keyboard is day and night.

Even with Brydge’s latest firmware update, scrolling is still chunky. The bounce-back effect that we’ve all grown to love is still feels like somebody is snapping a virtual rubber hand into my eyeball.

The trackpad itself is larger than the one found on the Magic Keyboard but that doesn’t make a difference when it’s terrible to use.

There is no flow when doing two finger scrolling. It seemingly scrolls down on a page by page basis rather than a free scroll. It almost feels like somebody is pressing the page down button for you every time you try to scroll.

The trackpad isn’t as responsive, random double clicks would happen, two finger scrolling sometimes worked, sometimes didn’t. Overall, from just a regular trackpad usage, it’s not great.

How about higher level gesturing with the trackpad? Is the Brydge Pro+ any good for that? Nope.

So how’s the typing experience?

Typing on the Brydge Pro+ is better than the Pro. The buttons aren’t as hard. My typing is a little less accurate with the Pro+ when compared to other keyboards because of the smaller keys but overall, it didn’t feel like I had to rage-slam every word I was typing on the Bryge Pro+.

The buttons themselves are a bit mushy, it doesn’t have the crisp click of Apple’s keyboard but from my experience with iPad keyboards, they all tend to be mushy.

When it comes to versatility, typing with the Pro+ on a flat surface is fine, using it on your lap isn’t too bad either except that you have to deal with the top-heaviness of the device. It’s always going to feel like it’s going to flop over.

Remember, the iPad is still heavier than the keyboard so be careful. BUT this is the only keyboard that offers 0-180 degree viewing angles.

I love marketing fluff. How useful is the 0 degree viewing angle? But I guess at 180 degrees, you easily use your Apple Pencil. Awkward but doable.
