Testing a 1964 Hammond A105 After Heavy Maintenance

First Sound for this never before played 1964 Hammond A105. It sat for 50 years in the living room of a man who got it as a gift in 1964, couldn't play it, and never found the key to unlock the fallboard. They put him in a nursing home, and nearly put this instrument in the dump. It was unplayable after 50 years of disuse, so required the same kind of heavy maintenance all organs of this vintage need.

I like to test instruments with Barber's Adagio for Strings because I love that tune and also because it plays nearly every key and every pedal at some point in the song in the context of a chord, so I can listen for any gremlins. The only gremlin that this organ has is the player.

This organ has an internal 15 Watt amplifier through two 12" speakers plus a separate reverb amplifier through its own 12" speaker. A100s are the best B3s. This organ, which I rescued from the landfill, is destined for the living room of a newly-minted AME minister. I couldn't be prouder that an instrument of such beauty and strength will be her first Hammond. I know she will love it for decades to come, because that is how they were made.

Filmed on my ancient iPhone SE.
