The Moshi Versa Cover was one of my goto cases for the iPad 2’s and 3’s from years ok. Is that the case now?
No.
But out of all the slim cases that I’ve got in my collection, this is the only case that I feel is a worthy alternative to the Apple Smart Folio.
Why? Because this is the only case in my collection that allows you to use your iPad in Portrait Mode. BUT before you go smash my Amazon link for the product, there’s a couple of things you need to know that may turn you away from this product.

At MREH, Monty and I base our videos on actual usage. From my perspective, actual usage comes in many forms. Like keeping track of how companies change over time. I’ve been using Moshi iPad cases for years and there’s a few things that I’ve noticed over the last few years that has caught my eye...but not for the right reasons. Let’s see if you can see it.
When it comes to fit, the cover performs as expected BUT the case is terrible. It fits but is quite loose. Now this problem isn’t specific to Moshi as Spigen and ESR have similarly weak PC shells.
BUT there is something so unnerving about putting your expensive iPad into a case that may come off like a Dwights Tear-away suit.
The shell of the has a matte finish to it show fingerprinting won’t noticeable.
The Moshi Versa Cover comes with a large magnetic flap which keeps your Apple Pencil secure and if you don’t have an Apple Pencil, has enough give to fold over nicely. This case doesn’t shame you for not using a Apple case. This larger than average flap will also help keep the case together if you use a glass ipad screen protector.
BUT it will shame your camera because the flap covers it.
Now the cover has a microfiber interior and an exterior that’s been finished to look like leather. I don’t think it is but from a wear and tear perspective, it’s going to hold up well against keys and coins and other mildly sharp objects.
The Moshi Versa Cover won’t slide around easily as the flap provides a bit of friction so that it doesn’t move. The Versa Cover also supports auto wake and sleep functions.
The case at its thickest point is 13.1mm whereas the Apple smart cover is only 10.9mm. Honestly that thickness difference doesn’t bother me is actually welcome because I’ve been knee deep keyboard cases that are just SO damn bulky.
The finish on the case is slicker than Apple’s cases though the Versacover is going to handle better than the average Amazon case or Spigen as the magnetic latch provides a decent area to hold onto.
When it comes to functionality, you can easily access all the buttons on your iPad. Port access is unhindered and the camera is easily accessible when the flap is open. Two handed usage of the iPad is decent as the microfibre provides your finger with a lot of to grip onto. Marathon COD Mobile sessions will be possible with this case.
The standout feature is the cover. It’s not explicitly written on the Versacover packaging BUT the on the website, its referenced as the iPad Origami case because of all the folds. Most cases come with two viewing angles, elevated typing and movie watching whereas the Versacover also includes Portrait mode. Handy for recipes from my perspective.
When it comes to protection, this slim case will offer your iPad better protection than Apple’s own case because of the flap that keeps it all together and the PC from does offer the corners of your iPad a bit of protection from a freak drop.
So after all that, the thing that catches my eye about this case is the flap covering the camera. This flap was designed for the 2018 iPad Pro and it’s single camera, not the pseudo pro cameras of the iPad Pro 2020.
And it’s this half-assing that bother’s me about Moshi. This is the second thing I’ve noticed from Moshi that’s made me wonder what’s going on with the company. It feels like they’re trying to cut corners somewheres. The first thing that I picked up on was the change of materials on some of their cases. Small accents that were unique were updated with cheaper materials.
We’ll see.
