Looking at the T5 from Samsung. Why would you want to consider a solid state drive (SSD) over a more traditional hard disk drive (HDD)? The biggest difference between the two is performance, the SSD will give you substantially better read and write speeds, in fact up to 10 times faster. Additionally SSDs, such as the T5, are generally far more portable and lightweight, this T5 weighs just about a fifth of what this Western Digital My Passport HDD does. In terms of height as well as thickness, there is also a substantial difference making the T5 far more portable and easy to travel with. Lastly, as is in the name SSDs are solid state drives, meaning there are no moving parts, unlike say a typical hard disk drive which has spinning discs to read and write the data. This also makes SSDs far more durable and less prone to damage when dropped. With all of these upsides the choice seems obvious, so what's the catch? Well SSDs are generally far more expensive compared to hard drives however this is where I find the T5 strikes a good balance between price to performance!
