Upgrade of a regular hard drive from a macbook pro to a ssd drive and adding of an additional hard drive instead of the optical disk drive. The same procedures can be folowed for a 13, 15 or 17 inch Macbook pro, from 2009 through early 2012 models. Will not work for any retina macs. As long as your mac has a built in dvd , you can upgrade to a second drive.
Tools needed : philips screwdriver, torx t6 screwdriver, tweezers (for removing the camera and speakers cables) and a sata to usb adapter-if you'd want to clone the contents of the old drive into the ssd.
Make sure that after the installation, you go into system preferences and set up the start up drive as the ssd- that will shorten the boot sequence.
If you need to copy the data from the old drive, you can use either the Superduper or Carbon Copy Cloner programs.
If you want the maximum performance, install the ssd directly in the place of the old drive, rather than in the dvd slot, as that has a slower interface.
