The iPhone 12 Pro is Apple's latest smartphone. Unless you're watching this in September 2021 or later. Then it's probably the iPhone 13 or 12s or whatever they decide to call their newest one. Either way, this phone is a fantastic phone. It improves on the iphone 11 in many ways. I've had it since a little after it launched. How has this phone held up? And how does this phone predict the future of the iphone? Well? Let's find out with a little review.

The iPhone 12 pro is an upgrade to the iPhone 11 series with larger displays for the pro models but with flat edges. And of course in the specs and the inside, a newer faster A14 chip, great battery life, and better cameras. The standout, new thing about this one? The new design, Magsafe and 5G, But, other than those, everything else about the iPhone 12 series is what you expect out of your iphone since the X. Good speakers, good OLED display, that's now on every model from the mini to the Pro Max, lightning port, Face ID, and same good battery life* You see that asterisk? We'll talk about that later. So, instead of reviewing every aspect of this phone, because if you're watching this, you've probably already seen a million of reviews. Instead, let's move onto the meat of this video of how this phone is just a glimpse into what Apple has planned for the future for their iPhone line and other products.

The new standout features of the 12 and 12 pro, seem like big upgrades, but in truth, won't fully shine until future iphones. Like the lidar sensor, magsafe and 5G.

Let's start with 5G first. It's faster than 4G but there's a trade off with 5g phones, and this applies to android phones with 5g as well, not specifically just the iphones, it typically drains your battery much faster than 4g. And it does. There are benchmarks that report battery drain up to 20% faster when using 5G. There's even a feature in the phone's settings to help mitigate this very thing. But, as the tech matures, as newer iphone and android models come out, 5g will be get more power efficient, but the current implementation of 5g in these phones are a battery drain. Another problem with 5g phones, is that if you're on a data plan that isn't unlimited, your data usage will probably increase too. See, I'm a cheapskate, I'm grandfathered into a 4GB of monthly data on my personal phone. And I refuse to pay $70 for unlimited. My usage has been relatively the same as before I had the iPhone 12 Pro, I'm not doing new things or watching movies on my mobile data and I'm currently working from home due to the pandemic. So, I rarely have time, or the opportunity to drain all my data out in the outside world, but it just keeps happening. This wasn't an issue on my XS max at all and I'm not complaining about my cheakskate-ness here. I know 4GB of data is not a lot, but I'm just here to point out that 5g phones can cause you to drain your data plan faster than what you're used to since websites load much faster than before. So keep that in mind if you're on a limited data plan or concerned about battery life and are considering 5G phones. You'll have to adapt to new battery and data usage patterns.

The reality is: Magsafe is a feature that is going to take some time before we can really determine how good it can be. The first magsafe products released were by Apple: the charger, magsafe silicon cases. After my first month or two of owning the iphone 12, I thought this "feature" might be the big g word. It's a huge market that's just waiting for great accessories. And that's exactly what's been happening since it's launch. It's still too early to call magsafe a success, but it looks to be approaching that way.

Finally there's the LIDAR sensor. It's a light sensor that uses lasers to determine range. What makes this LiDAR sensor great is it's capabilities in aiding in AR. Since it does makes what the cameras perceive as distance more accurate. This could be used to aide in the development of AR and VR apps and programs and is probably why there's rumors of an apple AR & VR headset and rumors of LiDAR making it into non-pro iphones. With so many devices equiped with LiDAR it would make it easier for developers to create better AR apps for apple devices and their rumored headsets.
