In my testing over the course of a few hours and 6 different locations on iPhone 12 Pro in my area, 5G lost more than 3/4 of the time when compared to 4G LTE. It's obvious that the rollout for 5G was rushed, but support out now can only be described as a beta. In some cases, it wins! And it's amazing. But those cases are few and far in-between.
