There are currently lots of rumors swirling around about the 2020 iPhones, some of them contradictory. It’s expected that at least some of the models will feature 5G connectivity, upgraded cameras with “time of flight” sensors, and that both the regular and high-end “Pro” models will have OLED displays. We can certainly expect the new iPhones to have a new A14 processor.

However, it is broadly expected that at least some of these products will ship a few weeks later than usual this year due to complications caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Most analysts believe that at least some iPhone models will now ship in October rather than September.

There was no October event in 2019—instead, Apple released products like the AirPods Pro and the 16-inch MacBook Pro directly online with no public event. We may have a better idea of whether Apple will hold an October event or not as the year progresses.

The current rumor is that Apple’s September event will focus on iPad and Apple Watch, while an October event will announce the iPhone 12 and other products, like the new Macs with Apple silicon. Other products, like AirPods Studio headphones, could be announced at either event or none at all—just an update to the Apple website.
