These steps are only only relevant if you are upgrading to a new SSD and reinstalling a fresh OS X.


1. Put laptop off

2. Connect your laptop to your internet via an Ethernet cable (very important).

3. Now, find the former HDD or disk and plug it into any of the USB ports.

4a. Press the power button and just as the chime is making noise press command+option+R.

*Note that APPLE will assess your system and offer to upgarde your system based on your laptop's former OS X, age and configuation*

4b. Press the power button and as above, when the irritating chime starts, press R.

5. Wait for a dialog box and release any buttons.

6. Read the options offered carefully and;

7. Choose option 2 i.e. reinstall a fresh OS X. click continue.

8. If you had a Two-Way authentification, you'll be asked to confirm your identity, etc. You'd need a code sent to you based on your preference and add the code to your normal password (if Apple is asking for it as it did on mine).

9. Click continue and let it run its course.
