In this video BMW How-To shows you how to share your Digital Key with friends and family. To send a Digital Key, open the main key in the Apple Wallet App on your iPhone. Tap on “more” and then “Invite”. By selecting “Set Access”, you can configure whether the driver has full access by tapping “Unlock and Drive”, or limited driving capabilities by tapping “Restricted Driving”. This restricts top speed, horse power, radio volume while preventing the driver from turning off DSC and more. Tap “Invite” and select the contact that you want to send a Digital Key to. For use of a shared Digital Key, a compatible iPhone is needed as well. The Digital Key will be sent via Apple iMessage. Tap “Send” and “Confirm” your shared Digital Key message. In your Apple Wallet, you can see a list of your shared keys and also whether the invitations have been accepted.
You can revoke a shared Digital Key via the Apple Wallet App. To do this, open your main key, select “more”, then select the person you want to delete and tap “Revoke access”. For safety reasons, the deletion is pending and the shared Digital Key is still functional on the other driver’s iPhone until another active digital or physical vehicle key is used for the vehicle once. The shared Digital Key is then deleted from the respective iPhone and – if set up as well – connected Apple Watch. To revoke a shared Digital Key while in the vehicle, go to “Car”, “Settings”, “Doors/Vehicle access”, “BMW Digital Key”, then select the key you would like to revoke and choose “Delete Key”. If the shared key is also used on an Apple Watch, it will show as a separate key on the list. If you delete keys from here, they are deleted immediately.
BMW Digital Key is available on selected BMWs produced after Summer 2020 with the optional equipment Comfort Access (SA322). To see whether your vehicle is compatible, you can use the My BMW App version 1.2 or later. Use your compatible iPhone to log into the app with your BMW ID and add your vehicle to your account, if it is not already shown on your account. If you see a section marked “Digital Key” on the first tab, then your vehicle is compatible.
The following devices are compatible with BMW Digital Key: iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max or later and Apple Watch Series 5 or later. BMW Digital Key will require iOS 13.6 and WatchOS 6.2.8. or later.
