How To Measure Something Using An iPhone

In this quick tech how-to video, I’m going to show you how to use the Measure app built into the iPhone to find the measurements of something, as well as checking out the leveling tool.

This is a pretty handy feature that’s only improving with the updates to the iPhone such as the addition of lidar in the iPhone 12 Pro and the newer iPad Pro. For quick measurements that don’t have to be exact, this is perfect.

To get started, search your phone for Measure and open it.

Make sure you’re on the Measure tab at the bottom.

Point your iPhone to the first point you want to measure and tap the plus sign at the bottom.

Move your camera across the surface you’re measuring, and then tap the plus sign again. If you make a mistake, you can easily just tap the undo button and redo your point.

Now moving over the distance that you just pointed out, you will then see the measurement.

You can tap the shutter button on the right to take a picture or tap clear at the top to start over.

Another super useful tool that’s built into the Measure app is Level. Tap the level tab at the bottom of the screen, and then you have a quick level you can use. If you move your iPhone around, you’ll see that it works horizontally, vertically, and you can even lay it flat. When you hit level, the screen turns green.

And that’s how you use the Measure app to measure distance and level on an iPhone.
