By default, the Mail app displays two lines of text for every email in your mailbox lists or inbox. Nonetheless, you can configure the app to view more lines of text. Doing so will let you preview an email content even without opening or showing the entire email itself.

The number of preview lines allows you to select between more text per message or squeezing in more messages.
