There is a common misconception between "code as a scalable product" and "code as a distribution tool." In this video, I illustrate the difference. Whereas several years ago, code was one of the only "scalable products" that could be distributed to millions of people efficiently, today we have platforms & infrastructure (like Alibaba and Amazon) that allow one to scale out many types of products both digital & physical. As a "distribution tool," code can additionally be used to build online stores, internet landing pages, email automation, and onboard an app to the iPhone app store, Google app store, etc., for additional distribution. In the past, the two concepts were unified - the distribution platform only accepted code, and so code had to be the product. Today, that is no longer the case. Separating these two concepts help you understand exactly why code is powerful and where to deploy code most effectively.
