I just recently fully upgraded my 2017 5K iMac Fusion drive from i5 7600k to i7 7700k with ssd upgrades. Comparison before and after upgrade benchmarks and thermal tests from Video editing. I delidded the i7 to help keep the temps down. Will it over heat and thermal throttle after delidding? Everyone knows that Apple Mac's design has inadequate cooling...

Anyhow for the performance gains part I'm pretty happy with the outcome. Though its no where near the new Mac M1 speeds but its still no slouch. Can get the job done and still holding strong as my daily editing driver. Don't need to upgrade to the latest and greatest all the time.
