We had a great response to our Go Mac question on Friday and I’ve made pretty much all of them into graphics which will be going out on Twitter and Instagram today, so choose your platform.

Chrome Vs Safari. It’s worse than we thought.
Chrome has a reputation for being a memory hog, but is it deserved? Spoilers. Yup, yep, that definitely deserves it. Moving on.
The guys over at iMore did the tests, using an intel 2019 16” MacBook Pro with 32GB of Ram. Luckily. With 2 tabs open, safari used just under 80gb of memory, and chrome hit 1GB. wow.

Moving up to 54 Tabs (because that is the logical next number),Chrome passed 15GB of memory usage within 5 mins, while safari stayed super low, using 12mb of ram per tab vs Chromes’ 290mb. That’s, let me just check the maths… a shitload. Both browsers by the way had no extensions installed, and safari in Big Sur should be around 50% faster than Chrome too, so unless you absolutely need some plugins or extensions in Chrome, Safari should really be the best choice for the vast majority of users. Kind of crazy.

M1 Apple Silicon get’s its first official Malware.
Ah they grow up so fast - a new piece of Malware has infected around 30,000 M1 based Macs worldwide, but what it does seems to be confusing security researchers.

Known as Silver Sparrow, security firm Red Sparrow has clarified it as a reasonably serious threat with a high infection rate and global reach, as well as the opportunity to execute remote code, and uses the MacOS Installer’s Javascript API to execute its commands, making it harder to analyse.

March event… Yes, but not the 16th, and not iMacs?
Okay. This sucks, but the latest I’m hearing now is that there isn’t an event on March 16th, which comes from Mark Gurman, contradicting Jon Prosser. Now Mark has a better overall accuracy rating on Apple Track, but Jon tends to nail the event dates, even tweeting out 10 mins before the announcement of iPhone SE at its launch with the exact time. So, I’m not sure what’s going on, but there are still product releases expected next month, and no confirmation whether its a full event, press release or carrier pidgin.

This is a quick one. How do you see the future of LIDAR technology specifically on iPhones and iPads? How far can it take us?

I noticed you use the first generation Magic Keyboard for your iMac (I notice these things while listening), I want to know why you still use the first generation version, not the more modern version with lightning charging? #iCaveAnswers

Morning Chum, having tea with me breakfast as I devour your excellent content. What animal would chug down coffee‽
