As a college student, new graduate or just a more budget-focused consumer, Apple's iPhone SE 2020 finally brings a cheaper option to their iPhone lineup.
The iPhone SE starts at $399 (with the option of trading in another iPhone for a potential rebate). In comparison we have seen how typical flagship smartphones like the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max clock in at over $1000. With the recent announcement of the potential iPhone SE 2 and the iPhone 12, it is possible for the price of the iPhone SE to drop even further towards the end of 2020 or early 2021.
The iPhone SE 2020 features a lot of awesome features within a more reasonable price range. Most prominently, the iPhone SE 2020 houses Apple's newest A13 processor, which is the same as the iPhone 11. Therefore you are not compromising on speed and performance with the iPhone se.
I was holding off on getting a new phone, but unfortunately my iPhone 8 had other plans. I generally prefer iOS to Android, when it comes to mobile operating systems, therefore I wanted to stick with Apple. But I didn't want to fork over $800-$1000 for a new phone. The iPhone SE 2020 came to the rescue, with the 128gb white version coming in at about $450. The iPhone SE has the same dimensions as the older iPhone 8, so I was used to the size and the way it fits into my hand. One of the main reasons I opted for the iPhone SE instead of say the iPhone 11 was because the performance would about the same regardless of price. Both the iPhone SE and the iPhone 11 hold the A13 chip. Where the iPhone 11 does pull ahead is obviously in screen size and general display (though the iPhone SE does have a very nice display too in my opinion), as well as in camera quality. The iPhone 11 does have superior cameras and facial recognition, so if that is important to you consider looking into the iPhone 11 as well.
Towards the end of this iPhone SE review I mentioned that there were some slight software issues when I first received the iPhone SE, but they were resolved within a day. Ultimately, when it comes to more budget smartphone options, Apple's iPhone SE 2020 is a serious competitor. There will obviously be cheaper Android competitors, but if you are a fan of iOS, the iPhone SE may be your best bet to balance both quality and price.
