Hello Macbook Pro A1278 users, once again, there was a customer with the question mark folder problem yesterday. Once I see the customer's Macbook Pro A1278, I knew it was a bad HDD cable. It is a well known issue on this particular A1278 model. Sometimes, a faulty hard drive also can cause the question mark on startup, but in most cases, specially for this model, it is a bad hard drive cable(I heard the aluminum housing scratches the cable, and eventually, your hard drive cable will fail). Since this HDD cable only costs around $20 dollars, why don't you give it a shot? Maybe this will fix your question mark problem.
