NexDock 2 - Test

Cannot listen with USB-C earbuds?
Top keys are the actual laptop controls to see the unit power levels (otherwise not displayed on screen)
Screen looks really good actually
Still cannot print to a wire-only printer (but wireless printing should be fine)


I actually really like the keyboard - the keys are super easy to type with
But the up arrow is right next to the shift, and the shift is smaller so I always screw that up
The track pad is not the best though - odd texture and poor tactile feel
With this, you can easily have more than 5 apps open (old limitation)
Netflix is not an optimized app :( It can also not be played on Samsung’s internet browser and it didn’t exactly work on Chrome either
Not all apps are optimized for Dex yet (but a lot of people are talking about a potential desktop mode on the next Android) - Pretty good but a bit ahead of its time

I think there might be some different launchers you can get (WINDOWS NEEDS TO MAKE ONE)

HOT KEYS WORK!!

Chrome works well if you enable desktop mode, and Samsung internet is very well optimized!
No chrome extensions though :(


PHYSICAL -
No webcam
Phone must be in the correct port

BATTERY TEST -
31% at 8:03AM (phone fully charged)
24% at 8:22 with full brightness (7% in 19 minutes means approximately 5 hrs battery while charging phone and using full brightness on device

BENEFITS:
All chrome history and tabs are transferred from phone to laptop
All files can be saved in regular file locations, or secure folder
Biometric locking
Laptop can be shared (family, small business, coffee shop)
Save money
Samsung sort of stopped selling Dex stations, so this is a great way alternative
You will never have to upgrade your laptop. Each new phone will essentially be “upgraded internals”
Use phone bluetooth devices (no more needing to connect to multiple devices or switch between them)
Use phone data
Use all accounts on phone - protect passwords by not needing to sign in frequently
Easily get a VPN app and protect both your phone and “laptop” easily

ISSUES:
Netflix :(
This will probably really struggle to compete with chromebooks for the next few years
Not all phones have it (Android 10 will have it)
Ports are not all versatile
Not all apps are optimized yet
Peripheral devices are iffy because drivers are missing (this would be great if Windows had an app that could do this with Windows)
No HDMI out for a larger display
Settings are limited (e.g. the touchpad scrolling is non-natural) - it would be nice if there was a Nexdock app to adjust these settings and integrate the phone with the hardware a bit more
Linux for Dex support was terminated
No webcam
Price is still a bit high. This really needs to be under $200 to compete aggressively with chromebooks
Phone needs to be teathered. Someday, this should be wireless
