Using an M.2 to Apple NGFF drive adapter, I replaced the existing 128GB SSD with a 1TB Crucial P1 M.2 SSD in this early 2014 13-inch MacBook Air. During the process, I learned that MacOS Big Sur no longer allows cloning of its system drive, so you need to use a third-party disk utility such as SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner. I used the latter for this case.
